I made my reservation a month prior via online and it was quick and easy. I chose the the retro modern package. When i arrived for my Kimono fitting, i was greeted by a lovely woman, i confirmed some details and then it was go time. I was shown a selection of kimonos which was included in my package and ones that i could pay extra for. I stuck to my package and went for a blue one with floral prints on it, i was then shown a variety of obi to choose from, again ones that are included in my package and ones which i could pay extra for. I was shown a variety of them by the lovely staff there, but they were too fancy, for the kimono i had picked, it had to have an obi that matched, nothing fancy, just a basic one, and dark in colour which gave the whole outfit a good contrast. Due to the kimono being a light blue, i chose a dark blue obi to match. I was then given options for the under garment, but chose to stick to my package. Once all three of the above were chosen, i was taken to get dressed. I had a lovely woman who was friendly and gentle when doing my fitting, she made sure i was comfortable when she had to tie ribbons on me, which were quite tight, but it is needed to keep certain parts of the kimono in place. Watching her dress me was amazing, it was like a form of art, and she did it all in perfection, she made it look so easy and made sure every little detail looked perfect. I was a little worried due to the tightness around my chest, as i felt that i couldn't breathe properly, but not long after i became used to it and it wasn't a problem. She did a great job, it was perfect, i loved it! Once i was dressed, the next thing to do was style my hair, i was shown the options, again basic ones to ones that i could pay extra for, but this time i chose one that i needed to pay extra. I thought why not go all out and have the perfect hair too. I had another woman who styled my hair, she was lovely and friendly. She did a great job on my hair, i love it that much that i actually slept in it and went another day with it up. Once my hair was done, i chose my bag and transferred all my stuff into that bag. I paid the extra cost for the hair, then chose my sandals and i was off to show my kimono off to the world. I was out pretty much all day in it, so i got my moneys worth, a lot of walking. Lets just say, sandals are not appropriate footwear for hiking, but i did it. My overall experience of this place, is that it gave me an amazing first time experience wearing a Kimono, the staff were friendly, patient and happy to help, a bunch of lovely people. The process was quick and it was interesting to watch the whole process, of how a woman would get dressed into a kimono. If you come here you will not be disappointed. Thank you to the people in Vasara kyoto for making my Kyoto trip a great experience, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
